PhD prize for industrial research
Applying for the ESAFORM PhD Prize for Industrial Research
Who may apply?
The ESAFORM PhD Prize for Industrial Research is awarded annually. The prize is €2,000. It intends to distinguish a PhD researcher, who has brought an outstanding contribution in the field of industrial material forming. Based on a sound scientific foundation, the work should demonstrate a clear industrial relevance supported by actual application of the work. The contribution may lead to a (potential) innovation in design, control or performance of industrial materials processing. It may concern any kind of material (metal, polymer, composite, ceramic, glass, concrete, food etc.) and any forming process (rolling, forging, sheet forming, casting, machining, extrusion, injection molding, blow molding etc.).
The applicant must have finished a PhD research project related to material forming and the application for this prize should follow within 2 years of the approval of the PhD thesis. The research should show clear industrial application, evidenced by cooperation with an industrial partner.
How to apply?
The applicant shall provide:
- A Curriculum Vitae,
- A digital version of the PhD thesis in portable document format (pdf) or a url at which it can be downloaded,
- A four-page abstract describing the major scientific achievements and the contribution to industrial application of the work (design of machines, improvement of existing processes, design of new processes or methods) and a list of publications (scientific or technical papers),
- Three recommendation letters (one from the PhD adviser, one from a scientific institution other than where the PhD degree is obtained and one from an industrial company that applies the forming process under consideration) underlining the quality and the originality of the PhD work, with emphasis on industrial relevance.
Presentation of the Award
The winner(s) will be notified a month before the next ESAFORM Annual Conference, and he/she will receive the ESAFORM Scientific Prize during the conference at the Europa Conference and Exhibition Center, Vitoria, Spain, from 8th to 10th of May, 2019. The winner(s) will deliver a lecture on his/her work.
